HELLO HEINZL CREW - THAT'S YOU!

I'm so happy you're here!

Say hello to THE DENIM KEEPSAKE BACKSTAGE PASS!

The BACKSTAGE PASS gives you full access to a complete video series. We’re building a junk journal from scratch. It’s inspired by the nostalgia of old-fashioned photo albums, but reimagined in an artsy, creative way - mixed with a material we all love: denim.

We’re going to walk this path together, step by step. From selecting the perfect materials and staining pages with tea and coffee, to assembling signatures and mastering the binding. We’ll build a custom cover together, topped with a mixed-media masterpiece as the highlight.

And of course, we’re unzipping new ideas for your photos. Because there is so much more to junk journaling than just gluing a picture onto a page.

I’m taking you behind the scenes for the full, authentic process. You’ll get detailed instructions, but we’re also going to have experimental moments where even I don't know exactly how it will turn out. Why? Because I want to show you the real heart of creating—the thoughts, the trials, and the 'happy accidents' that happen when you truly experiment.

This Backstage Pass isn’t just about watching over my shoulder; it’s about sitting at the table with me. It’s designed so you can create right alongside each episode.

Now, a little heads-up: If you’re looking for a quick, two-hour tutorial, this series isn’t for you. But, if you want to dive deep into the world of junk journaling - if you want to explore the craft, the techniques, and the stories behind the pages - then you are exactly where you belong.

The BACKSTAGE PASS also includes my "THE DENIM KEEPSAKE JUNK JOURNAL KIT", additional freebies and bonus materials to help you follow along step by step.

Let’s take our time. Let's get creative. I'll see you in the studio!

EPISODE 1

INTRODUCTION & SUPPLIES

Get an overview of the project and all the materials we’ll use - the perfect place to start your DENIM KEEPSAKE adventure!

EPISODE 2

HOW TO YOU START A JUNK JOURNAL?

Let's go shopping our own stash!

In this episode, we begin with a completely empty table - the moment where most creative panic kicks in. Together, we ‘shop’ our own stash and build a buffet of supplies. Step by step, choosing papers, textures, and ephemera in a way that visually shapes the soul of the project.

EPISODE 3

COFFEE & TEA DYEING EXPERIMENTS

We’re diving into the world of coffee and tea dyeing to see exactly what happens when we let ourselves get a little messy and play with our materials.

EPISODE 4

TECHNIQUES FOR TRANSLUCENT PAPERS

In this episode, we’re playing with the idea of those beautiful, ghostly pages found in old photo albums. Let's get creative with a very simple but effective technique to recreate that delicate, see-through magic ourselves.

EPISODE 5

EASY MIXED MEDIA PAGE BORDERS

When it comes to mixed media techniques some of us tend to freak our freaks a bit, right? Let's use that as a chance to try our hands on some really easy mixed media techniques to create unique borders on our papers for the journal.

EPISODE 6

THE PAGES & THE SIGNATURES

In this episode, we’re going to bring the papers we made earlier to the right size for our journal and put the signatures together.

EPISODE 7

TRANSPARENT TAPE SPOTS

Remember those pages we tore some pieces from earlier? Well, those 'imperfections' are going to be the stars of this episode! Instead of seeing them as gaps, we’re treating them as windows. We’re going to bridge those torn spots with transparent tape and create miniature botanical worlds inside them using dried flowers, delicate cut-outs, and intricate die cuts.

EPISODE 8

THE FUSSY CUTTING GAMECHANGER HACK!

How much time have I wasted cutting out all of those little details, like bird feet or the stems of leaves on my printed ephemera images? I could have saved so much time if I had come to this idea earlier, and I can't wait to share this fussy cutting gamechanger hack with you.

EPISODE 9

EMBELLISHMENTS WITH EYELETS

Quite early in the process of making our journal, when we stained our papers with coffee and tea, we spotted some small areas where the liquid mediums soaked through to the other side. This unfortunately ruined our prints a little bit. But instead of seeing it as a fail, let's try a little idea to make something unique and interesting - pleasing for the eye for our pages.

In this episode, we are going to create some scraps which we will decorate with mainly eyelets but also other elements and glue them over those "ruined" page spots as a decorative element.

EPISODE 10

PAGE CORNER DECOR WITH EYELETS, FUSSY CUT IMAGES & STENCILING

Sometimes you get those ideas which you just can't get out of your head again. So let's make some page corner decor embellishments with eyelets, fussy cut images and some stenciling!

EPISODE 11

THE (IMPOSSIBLE?!) COVER!

It's time for making the cover. For the base, I want to use some sturdy cardboard. That's the material I usually use for making my hardcover journals, but I want to add a little twist to it and use an "impossible" material - and that's also the star of the show.

We are going to use some denim from an old pair of jeans. At first glance, this seems like an impossible material to use because it's just so thick; it adds a lot of bulk and stiffness to the cover, which we obviously don't want - we want to get a nice and proportionally harmonious journal.

Let's figure out a way to make this work! We will also discuss the things we have to take into consideration when using such a difficult material. As always, when it comes to being creative with a junk journal, we will find a solution for something that might seem impossible.

EPISODE 12

SEWING THE SIGNATURES IN

In this episode, I am sharing all of my tipps and tricks on how to bind the signatures in. We're going to create a hidden spine for our journal and I share some things along the way I've learned over the past couple of years.

EPISODE 13

SOME ADDITIONAL TOUCHES FOR THE COVER

This moment, when everything after letting it dry overnight is finally dry the next day and we can for the very first time see our journal as a real journal in its bound condition.... very exciting! At the same time, we can see some spots where we might want to add additional touches to our cover: a little bit of inking, a torn zipper or even some pockets on the inside of the cover.

EPISODE 14

FOCAL POINT FOR THE COVER & SOME VERY SPECIAL PAGE TABS

Adding a focal point to a cover that already looks pretty amazing can be a struggle. One butterfly? Or would three be better? No butterfly and some birds instead? Questions, questions, questions... and more decisions that will lead us to a journal that feels completely you in the end.

In this episode, we're going to add a focal point to the cover and we'll also make some very special page tabs with little dangles.

EPISODE 15

FINISHING TOUCHES & "EMPTY" FLIP THROUGH

In this episode, we’re adding some finishing touches to our journal. We’ll also explore some spontaneous ideas to see exactly where they lead us.

At the end, I’ll take you through a flip-through of the 'empty' journal; I thought it might be interesting to show you how versatile this piece is, even if you decide to use it for something other than photos

EPISODE 16

BASIC TECHNIQUES FOR PHOTOS

I'm sharing some basic ideas for you photos with you. These videos have been published on my youtube channel as well, so you might have already seen them. But in my eyes, these ideas work perfect for our DENIM KEEPSAKE journal! Enjoy!

EPISODE 17

MASK & AGE

Have you ever wondered how you could highlight those areas on your photos that speak the most to you? Or get rid of something you don't like to be on your photo? Then this episode is for you!

EPISODE 18

COLLAGED PHOTOS

I absolutely love to alter photos with collage elements!

In this episode, I walk you through my process step-by-step, share my thoughts and we will also explore something absolutely fascinating! To be honest, I didn't expect, that a NAPKIN would surprise me that much!
